Am I a micromanager?

Three behaviours, scored honestly. Then one experiment.

Micromanagement rarely looks like malice. It looks like caring about the work.

It also produces the exact failure it is trying to prevent. A team that is never allowed to decide anything on its own stops looking like a team that can be trusted to, and then the shortfall gets used as the reason to take more autonomy away.

This audit is about last month rather than about your intentions, because intentions are not the thing your team experiences.

What you get

  • The three tells, each scored one to five on what you actually did
  • The self-fulfilling trap, named, so you can see whether you are in it
  • One autonomy experiment to run next month, with a defined review point

Where should we send it?
