Our customer research keeps getting lost

A tagging scheme, what to capture per interview, and the retention rules to decide once rather than every time.

Do customer interviews for any length of time and you hit the next problem, which is what to do with everything people told you. A team running forty open-ended interviews and then twenty more to validate produces well over a hundred pages of notes and transcripts, plus forty hours of recording.

Few companies install any system for storing it, and two things go wrong as a result. Teams lose the archival context of what has already been tried and how it turned out. And when someone leaves, they take critical knowledge with them that cannot easily be recreated or documented.

Building the system is a real investment. But if you are going to bother integrating experiments into the workflow, and you should, running them without somewhere to store the insights is a waste.

What you get

  • A five-dimension tagging scheme to agree on before the next interview
  • A capture list: the minimum per interview that stays useful in a year
  • Four retention rules to decide once, in advance
  • Where AI genuinely helps with this, and where the judgment stays yours
