The product discovery process, and how to tell if your team is actually running it

Five practices, scored honestly. The one you score lowest is the one holding the other four back.

Product discovery is not one activity. It is five, and they run as a cycle rather than a line. Interviews feed insights. Insights shape the metrics you track. Metrics point to the experiments worth running. Experiments feed the demo that closes the loop back into the next round of interviews.

A cycle breaks at its weakest link. Most teams have one practice that quietly stopped happening, and the other four keep running anyway, producing motion that looks like discovery and is not.

This worksheet finds that link. One page, five scores, about ten minutes.

What you get

  • Five practices, one honest scoring prompt each
  • A place to record your lowest score and what you will do about it
  • A tie-break rule for when two practices score the same
